Racist Tweets?

This is for all of those people, black, white or otherwise, who think that racism is in the past and that black people, liberals and others are making seemingly racist incidents seem like they're racist when they're not.

Joel Ward, a black hockey player, with the Washington Capitals, scored the overtime winning goal to eliminate the defending Stanley Cup champion, Boston Bruins, on Wednesday in Game 7 of their play off series. This should have been a great moment of celebration for the Ward, the team, and Hockey, but instead, Twitter lit up with a shower of n-words, and other racist comments.

"Go play basketball, hockey is a white sport,” ‘’4th line black trash” and “white power” were some of the less nasty things tweeted by angry Boston fans. That the wining goal was scored by a black player “makes this loss hurt a lot more.” one angry fan tweeted. (Really?)

The Bruins and the NHL, quickly condemned the tweets and numerous Boston fans went online to denounce the tweets. But as was stated in a online article by the Washington Post, " The outburst was a reminder of the difficulties hockey has had overcoming the idea that black people are unwelcome on the ice or in the stands".

Anson Carter And Rob Parker

Anson Carter, a black winger who played with the Bruins for four seasons during a 10-year career, said he was “very surprised” by the reaction and said the Boston fans had treated him well. “I thought we were beyond that. But then again, nothing surprises me,” “I know racism exists. But if people think all NHL fans are racist, that’s the furthest thing from the truth.” Carter also said. “The league has come a long way. To the casual fan, people may have in the back of their minds that it’s a racist sport, and this validates that idea.”

Sports columnist and ESPN “First Take” contributor Rob Parker tweeted “Despite a black president, things haven't changed,.

The Magical Black President

I can't believe how many people think that the election of a black president would somehow magically end racism...it's so naive. This would actually cause the racist attitudes that already exist to flare up, as this black hockey player scoring the winning goal demonstrates. The same thing happened when Barack Obama was running for president and after he won the election.

Former Washington Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington tweeted“Thought times have changed? Is this real?”

See what I mean? He thought things had changed because there are a few black players in professional hockey? Because there is a black president? Amazing!

Many of the Boston fans were appalled at the racist tweets and condemned them.

White Man's Sport

Unfortunately this shows there are still many people who think that Hockey is a white man's sport, the United States is a white man's country and the office of president is a white man's job.

Those of you who say that racism is in the past...explain these racists tweets to me please.

And just so we're all on the same page, here's the dictionary definition of Racism followed by a definition of Racist

Racism: a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

2. A policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Racist: a person who believes in racism, the doctrine that a certain human race is superior to any or all others.

I would add that this belief in the superiority of one's race is based solely on some physical trait, like skin color. This idea of superiority or specialness by birth, is derived from the idea of the royal birth. You can be an idiot, but because you're the king's son, you 're special and superior to a peasant, who may be a genius . This is how racists think and believe about themselves and their race.

It doesn't matter how much a highly educated, successful black person accomplishes in life, to racists, he or she, will always be seen as just a “n*gger” and inferior to some poorly educated, beer guzzling “white trash” just because they're black. The reverse of this is also true.

It doesn't matter if you're black, white or whatever, if you have or share these beliefs you're a racist. Do we agree?

Racist Tweets

For those you who vehemently believe that there is no more racism. Here are some of the racist tweets collected by Black Sports.com

1."of course the f*cking N*igger on washington scores

5. "Joel Ward is the first N*igger to score in game 7 overtime"

6. "Of course it's the fucking N*igger . White power!

7.Bruins just got beat by a N*igger I thought hockey was a white mans game wtf f*ck ward
